He is too shy

My new boyfriend is kind of shy. I like him a lot only sometimes when we go out, we have nothing to talk about since he hardly ever starts a conversation and I often run out of words.

Please tell me how to get rid of it or at least some topic we could talk about or I dont know anything that would help please. I dont wanna loose him...
